Part M1 of the Building Regulations refers to the ‘Access and Use’ of a building and its facilities with Sections 4.25 to 4.29 then refining the use and design considerations of switches, outlets and controls. Part of the requirements of Part M1 is to aid disabled people within their surroundings, being able to activate a light, socket or control within arms length, for the visually impaired being able to identify the units’ position against its surrounding décor, and for the infirm a suitable pull-cord switch to raise the alarm in the event of an emergency.
